PAVI - UX/UI

Project Overview:

This project was all about process, and user experience. I was paired with a classmate, Pavithra, and we got to know each other, researching each other with the goal to locate a problem in each others’ daily routine. Once I identified a problem, my task was to design a product, app or service that would improve Pavithra’s life, using the information I gathered about her and what she likes.

Process

  • The beginning was all about getting to know each other. Pavithra was also designing for me, so this first stage involved lot’s of back-and-forth rapid-fire questions. At the start, the interview process was very structured but it eventually became more conversational and natural. Pavithra and I spent time both in class, and out of class getting to know each other personally, learning each other’s values, goals, aesthetic preferences, everything from A to Z. I took notes and created three mind maps to record the things I learned about Pavithra.

  • At this point it was time to define Pavithra’s challenges, and identify the benefit a change would have in her daily life. An example of a problem statement I came up with: “Pavithra needs a way to be more organized so she can feel more at-ease in her daily life”. From a simple statement like this, I would refer to my interview notes and mind maps to develop prototype sketches of solutions.

  • At first, I resisted designing an app because I wanted to make something tangible - I started this project designing a crochet organizer for Pavithra’s jewelry, which there-before resided in a plastic bag. However, I quickly realized that this direction was limiting in concurrence with the material I was learning in class such as affordances, interface design, hierarchy. So I did a gear shift and began sketching wireframes for an app meant to inspire Pavithra to get out of bed in the morning.

Mind Maps & Sketches

The Idea

The thought for the app is Tinder, but for clothing combinations. You can download your clothes into the app, or you can ask for randomly-generated ai outfit combos and the app with compile a bunch of cards with complete outfits you can swipe on left for no or right for yes. This interactive swiping feature is designed to be a fun and motivational game for Pavithra to help wake her up, but also to help her feel cute for the day. I named the app Pavi, which is her nickname.

The app also functions as a friendly morning greeter in the form of a cute ai character that says good morning and gives advice on your clothes. It also lets you know the weather for the day ahead so you can bundle up accordingly.

Style Sheet

This brand kit was inspired by colors Pavithra likes. The gradient was a choice I made in order to make the app feel calming and warm, which is essential to the motivational function of the app. I wanted it to be inviting.
