Branding Ancient Troy

My favorite painting in the Krannert Art Museum has a wordy title: Achilles Displaying the Body of Hector at the Feet of Patroclus. Being a fan of the Iliad, I was happy to find out that in my short graphic design inquiry class I would be re-imagining the ancient city of Troy.

Map

Inspired by circular ancient Greek pattern motifs

Step one was research, and lots of it (see in Behance, link at foot). Step two was applying that research to generate a map of Troy using Adobe Firefly. Below is my final map design, which is AI generated, but altered by me in Illustrator.

Flag

Troy was a city of Greek culture. The sun god Apollo supported Troy during the Trojan War. Yellow represents the Apollo.

Burnt orange references traditional Athenian red-figure pottery which is a combination of terracotta & black.

Word Mark + Tagline

Three words to personify the city of Troy I imagined guided my word mark decisions: Fortified. Decadent. Ancient. The typeface I chose is called Augustus.

Ridges symbolize the fortified wall around Troy

Form is a sun to reflect the sunny Mediterranean climate of the city.

Black in combination with burnt orange references traditional Athenian red-figure pottery.
